Welcome to the WSBA Preadmission Education web page!
In October 2005, the Washington State Supreme Court adopted amendments to Admission to Practice Rules (APR) 5 and 18, mandating that, prior to admission, bar applicants must complete a minimum of four hours of approved preadmission education. The new rules became effective June 1, 2006.
You can meet this requirement by watching the video available on this website, and then following the instructions at the end of the video or by attending a live program if your local area offers one. There is no cost to you.
Who must complete the preadmission education?
If you are seeking admission to the practice of law in Washington, you are required to complete this preadmission education if:
- You have passed the Washington State Bar Exam but did not receive an order of admission from the Washington State Supreme Court prior to June 1, 2006.
or
- You are qualified for admission to practice in Washington through reciprocity, but did not receive an order of admission from the Washington State Supreme Court prior to June 1, 2006.
How do I get credit for completing the preadmission education?
At the end of the video are instructions on how to receive credit. Information you need to have handy includes the month and year you took the Washington State Bar Exam (if applicable) and your registration ID number (this is also known as your applicant number that was provided to you by admissions). If you cannot locate your registration ID number (applicant number), contact the WSBA Service Center at 800-945-WSBA, 206-443-WSBA, or questions@wsba.org and ask to be connected with the admissions department.
Must I watch the four hours all at once, or can I watch the video in several sittings?
You may watch the video in several sittings. (It's easy to fast-forward to where you left off.)
Can I watch the video and get MCLE credit if I am not required to complete the preadmission education?
No. This video satisfies only the preadmission education requirement for admission to practice law in Washington. MCLE credits are not available for this course. |
