A. The preadmission course and the admissions process, generally

  1. Can I attend the live program or complete the video course before I am eligible for admission?

No. Completing the course before you receive notification that you have passed the exam or that you qualify for admission through reciprocity is premature. If you certify completion before you are eligible for admission, it will not count.

  2. Can I attend the live program or watch the video and get MCLE credit if I am not required to complete the preadmission education?

No. This course satisfies only the preadmission education requirement for admission to practice law in Washington. MCLE credits are not available for this course.

  3. Do I have to take this additional course even though I took a similar class that was required of all new attorneys when I was admitted originally in another state?

APR 5 requires all applicants to the Washington bar to take the course prior to admission. You are required to take the course.

  4. I have made arrangements through the office of admissions to take the oath of attorney. Do I need to hurry to take the preadmission course before then?

Actually, APR 5 does not specify in what order to complete the admission requirements. So, you need not complete the course before swearing in.

  5. When can I expect to be admitted?

    Contact
admissions@wsba.org for any follow-up questions about the admissions process.

B. Registration for the preadmission course

  1. Must I register to take the preadmission education course?

Yes, please register online before you watch the video. If live programs are available and you wish to attend, register online in advance. Registration is online for both the video course and live seminars and accessible through the preadmission education homepage
    http://www.wsbacle.org/preadmission.

  2. Do I need to register for the video each time I access the video links?

Once you are registered, an automatically generated email will confirm your registration. You do not need to complete the sign-in each time. For subsequent access to the video, just click on the video link at the bottom of the sign-in page.

  3. What information do I need in order to register?

You will need an email address, your 7-digit WSBA applicant identification number, and the month and year you took the bar exam. If you are a reciprocity applicant, enter “Rule 18” instead of a bar exam date. You will also need this information to confirm video viewing.

  4. How can I locate my 7-digit applicant ID number?

The ID number was given to you when you paid for your application to take the bar exam or for reciprocity and should be on correspondence you received from WSBA Admissions. To help locate your applicant identification number click here for an example of a letter sent to you by admissions. Contact admissions@wsba.org if you cannot locate your applicant identification number.

C. The online video course

  1. What is the format of the online course?

The online course is streaming video with PowerPoint slides that run parallel to the course. There is a downloadable coursebook in PDF format. Feel free to access the website and skim through the video without registering if you have concerns about accessibility. However, if you decide to take the online course, be sure to register first. Start here:
    http://www.wsbacle.org/preadmission

  2. Do I have to watch the online video in a four-hour block of time?

No. You may watch the video in several sittings. It is easy to fast-forward to where you left off. When you access the video at subsequent sittings, the video will not automatically remember where you left off.

  3. For the online course, is it okay to read the coursebook (PDF version), or must I listen to the lectures through Real Player?

Simply downloading, reading, or printing the "Preadmission Education Program" coursebook does not satisfy the course requirement. You must watch the four-hour video online. The coursebook augments the lectures, but is not a substitute.

  4. Does the WSBA track my viewing of the video course?

No, the WSBA does not track your viewing. Applicants are responsible for watching the entire four-hour video and for confirming that they watched it via online verification. Admissions will not continue to process your application unless you confirm that you watched the four-hour video. By confirming viewing, you certify under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that you have watched all segments of the Preadmission Education Video (4 hours of program).

D. Accessibility to the online video course

  1. What can I do if I do not have Internet access?

Is the video available on CD or DVD? The video is not available on CD or DVD. If you do not have access to the Internet at home or work, you may need to use a computer available at a public library, law school, or a store with a business center. Although the course itself is free, applicants are responsible for their own Internet access.

  2. I have a dial-up connection to the Internet. Will I be able to complete the course?

If you do not have a High Bandwidth (Cable or DSL) Internet connection and wish to view the online course via a Low Bandwidth (Dial-Up) connection you can view a Low Bandwidth / Dial Up version.
[Click here to go to the Dial Up version.] Please be aware that the dial-up version has audio and slides to read, but no video to watch.

  3. I have been unable to get the online preadmission video to work on my computer.

In order to view the Preadmission Education video you will need to have installed on your computer the latest version of Real Networks Real Player; the version you need is the FREE BASIC PLAYER. You can download the FREE BASIC PLAYER Real Player here; there are free versions for both Mac and Windows systems. If you have downloaded the latest version of Real Player, but still experience technical problems, your computer firewall may be interrupting the video stream. The typical viewing problem relates to office server firewalls. Ask your IT department to clear port 554. For additional assistance, contact the WSBA Service Center (8 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday) Toll-free: 800-945-WSBA (9722) Local: 206-443-WSBA (9722) E-mail questions@wsba.org

  4. I am not allowed to download Real Player on my work computer. What shall I do?

In order to view the Preadmission Education video you will need to have installed on your computer the latest version of Real Networks Real Player; the version you need is the FREE BASIC PLAYER. If your work place does not allow this, you may need to view the video from another location.

  5. I see and hear the video, but do not see slides. What is wrong?

Be sure that you have installed on your computer Real Networks Real Player – you need the FREE BASIC PLAYER. Additionally, you should close all unnecessary Windows in order to maintain complete, uninterrupted access to the video.

E. Confirming completion of the online video course

  1. How do I verify that I watched the online four-hour video course?

You will confirm viewing when you complete all four hours, not each segment (there is no partial credit). To do this, access the confirmation webpage online by clicking the confirmation page link that appears at the end of the final video. You must actually watch the video slides to see the link. The link is imbedded in the final video slide and reads: “Click here to complete the confirmation form online; you must complete the form online to receive video viewing credit.” Click on the slide itself. The confirmation form is titled: “Confirmation of Video Viewing” and will open in a separate Real Player window once you click on the slide. To complete the form, you need the following information: (a) Your Admissions Registration ID (applicant number) and (b) The month and year you took the Washington State Bar Exam (if you are a reciprocity applicant, enter Rule 18 in the box)

  2. I watched all four hours of the preadmission online video, but when I got to the “Click here to complete the confirmation form online…” and clicked, nothing happened.

The confirmation page never appeared for me to fill out and submit. Am I doing something wrong? If you are experiencing difficulty with the link opening properly, close all additional windows, other than the video-viewing window, before trying to access the confirmation form. If you still have trouble finding the form on your screen, try to maximize the screen (the box in the upper right hand corner) or make it smaller (the box, again, not the minus sign) – try one or the other to be sure you can see the confirmation form that should appear below the video window.

  3. If I need to go back to the video to fill out the confirmation form, do I have to watch the entire last video segment again?

No, there is no need to watch the entire segment again. You can access the confirmation slide by opening the last video and pulling the bar (fast-forward button) over to the one hour and five minute point (1:05:00). Do not go beyond that point. Then, wait for the “Click here to complete the confirmation form online…” slide to appear; click on the slide to be directed to a confirmation page.

  4. I completed the confirmation form online; however, I did not receive any confirmation email. Are we supposed to get some type of confirmation after completing and submitting the form?

Once you enter your name, address, registration number, etc., verify that you watched the four hours of video, and submit the form, you will see a screen that gives you the option to print your confirmation for your records. You will receive no other confirmation. At that point, your confirmation enters the secure online database. We send the list of confirmations to Admissions every workday; Admissions will complete the processing of your application. If you have further questions about the admission process, please contact the Admissions Department at
    admissions@wsba.org

F. Live preadmission seminar courses

  1. How can I determine if my registration to attend a live preadmission education seminar has been received? You will receive an email acknowledging your order for the course. It looks like this:

NLESEAF07 King County Bar Young Lawyers Division Preadmission Education Program 1 $0.00 $0.00
    Sales Tax: $0.00
    Total:$0.00
Although the confirmation email does not show the registration date and time, it shows the course for which you registered.

  2. If I want to attend a live preadmission seminar, do I have to register for a live seminar in my county of residence?

No. You can take the course at the location of your choice. Please register for only one location. Typically, live seminars occur from mid-May to mid-June and mid-October to mid-November. Registration opens for live courses approximately May 1 or October 1. All locations offering live seminars are indicated on the preadmission education course registration website.
